Why communication vey important in performance appraisal?
In this era, I think all organization should have good quality of employee which can be seen at their knowledge, skill and ability? The question is how to evaluate those criteria? Simple!! By having performance appraisal. As employee, we need to know our organization’s expectation and same goes to organization where’s they should highlight the appraisal blueprint.
According to a recent study by Bersin and Associates, organizations that use collaborative performance management have better business results than those that do not. Further, those companies whose employees have high-quality development plans realize twice the revenue per employee as those organizations with poor or low-quality development plans.
To do this effectively, these organizations have leveraged the four keys of collaborative performance management which is
Align goals more collaboratively and frequently, Provide performance and development communication and Have better conversations
For this article, I just want to highlight one of the key which is communication. As all of us know, communication is very important to achieve objective. Manager must provide layout regarding JD (Job Description) & communicate clearly to employee. So that, employee will make this layout as surveyor in performing their job. Friend of mine had experience bad appraisal with his superior. This is due bad communication & in my opinion lack of knowledge regarding performance appraisal. In any organization, there must be politics activity where’s someone will destroy others to make sure they will get their personal interest. Although the percentage of politics is rare, but it still exist in any place. Same happen to my friend, when his colleague inform to superior about his negative side. But the things is superior doesn’t investigate and just give bad performance to my friend. And the worst is the superior not inform my friend what his fault & negative side. He wondering if he does not have positive sides which contribute to goal achievement? And this make him demotivated & until now he can’t concentrate in performing job.
Why not, the superior communicate with my friend and do investigation before come to solution. The superior should focus on job performance, not the person they evaluate. Although there’s bad news about that person, superior should look & review my friend performance not 100% trust with rumors. It’s very easy to plan everything like the keys, criteria, objective and others in evaluating performance but to implement those plans is not easy like ABC. I just wondering, whether we still have justice in this era? Whether we comply 100% towards the plan? Or it’s just a piece of paper. Moral of the story, if you not satisfy with someone, tell him nicely & suggest what he should do, without destroy others life. We are Malaysian and we already been educate about good value like honesty, respect, and others since we born. Is it difficult to live in harmony?
